Just joined the club of disappointed users. Looks like it's simplehuman's best kept secret: you love the pump, get used to it for...a year... and then it dies on you! You have no choice but to go back, pay again and get a new one. My husband did all these described in other reviews tricks: cleaned up the whole thing, etc. Nothing helped. Dead as dead can be. I guess, I will go back to the 20th century regular pumps.

For starters, I did not purchase this item from Amazon (sorry Amazon), but rather at Bed Bath and Beyond. But other than that,I have owned the product for a year now (used religiously) and will give you my unbiased review.

First, the AWESOME!
-to me, this is the most attractive pump of Simplehuman's line

-has dispensed everything I have thrown at it (BTW, Simplehuman specifically states to not use this product with liquids containing abrasives)
-a.k.a. Dish Soap (Dawn), Hand Soap (Dial), Germ-X, and lotion (Lubriderm)

-includes two lids; one labeled "soap" and the other "lotion"

-Batteries last a LONG time-4 AAs-not included- (simplehuman states a year; I declare 9-10 months...unless you get them wet cleaning the unit LOL)

-has 4 different levels of dispensing (I find 1-2 to be perfect---just depends on the viscosity of the liquid---to me, level 4 is just silly. It literally dispenses for almost 3 seconds and drenches your hand, but I guess I'm glad that is an option-if that's how you like it haha)

The, Not-So-Awesome
-chrome shows water spots easy (which is inevitable if near a sink) and requires frequent wiping to stay pretty :)

-soaps can drip back to the under side of the spout requiring cleaning (usually only once a month though)

-dispenser is prone to clogging (particularly if it sits for a while)

-(and although i find this to be a plus) this dispenser doesn't actually use a "pump" system. There is no sucking action. Rather, it uses two opposing gears to PUSH liquid through the spout. I prefer this, because it is easy to clean and there is no chance of a pump burning out. Which brings me to my next section....

As much as I LOVE this cute little dispenser, it has clogged on me once (for me, about...10 months into its life). I had let it sit for a while with Germ-X in it, and you could hear the motor wine, but nothing came out. Luckily for me, I'm decently tech savy, so I took the entire dispenser apart and was able to repair it. And this is what I have to say...The internals of this are BRILLIANT. I can say with confidence that this dispenser is built to last. The motor is connected to the impeller via Rubber Band. The beauty is that the motor can spin freely, even if the impeller is clogged (so less chance of burning up the motor). My problem, and I assume this is for everyone else, is that the impeller system became clogged and could not spin. It was as simple as taking out one screw to remove it and open it up. I simply rinsed it out with water and all was well again.

Conclusion!
After having this for a year, this thing has become my little buddy (and the envy of all my friends---I'm in college and, for whatever reason, people love this thing). It has failed me once, but I had the know-how on how to fix it, but I do have advice to give which SHOULD prevent this unit from failing (at least "pump wise"-if the motor burns up, it burns up). I HIGHLY recommend, between every fill up, to simply pump water throughout the unit till it runs clear. Even better, after that, pour a little rubbing alcohol and then, of course, rinse that out with water as well. As far as I can tell, that should prevent it from clogging. And REMEMBER! do NOT use with abrasives! It will clog the gears and therefore will not "pump."

I have given this 4 out of 5 simply because I cannot ignore the fact that I, and several others, have had issues with it. What do I say? I say it is basically inevitable to have problems with any form of pump. But after looking at the simple, but brilliant internals, I would say that this is made to last as long as you take care of it. I own many Simplehuman products and I am hooked. I would recommend this to a friend, but would make sure I gave him my advice.

this sensor pump works great! YOu do have to use liquid soap that isn't to think or it won't pump it out. We haven't had any issue with this product. We actually recently bought this one for the bathroom after having one in the kitchen for about a year. Only issue is the top cap gets weak and our old one broke the plastic threads after about 9 months. The pump still works find, but the top cap is just sitting there with nothing holding it in place.
